College of Natural Resource Management - Marin, Kapilakot, Sindhuli

College of Natural Resource Management, Marin, Kapilakot, Sindhuli was established as the second constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Nepal by the senate meeting of AFU held on 5th of Baisakah, 2074. CNRM Sindhulii located in Marin Rural Municipality-7 Sindhuli which is 26 Km west i.e. one and half hour drive from Sindhulimadi, a district headquarter of Sindhuli. CNRM Sindhuli is the representative constituent college of AFU in province number 3, Nepal. The college lies in heart of Hetauda-Dharan-Chatara highway which has been proposed to be the new national highway named as Madan Bhandari Highway.

The opening ceremony of the college was inaugurated by the chief guest and former prime minister of Nepal Mr. Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) on 3rd of Falgun 2074 by watering the flower plant and Mr. Dahal did the SILANAYAS of the foundation building of CNRM-Sindhuli. And later, Mr. Dahal inducted the class room by cutting of the ribbon and then addressed some speeches to B.Sc.Ag students on importance of agricultural education in the context of Nepal for about 15 minutes.

At present, CNRM-Sindhuli is running in the building given by the Marin Multiple College and the local government would be constructing additional floor for the next academic year 2075/076 soon. The master plan for the academic and administrative buildings is almost final and bidding for the building construction contract is going to be finalizing very soon. The college wishes to operate the classes from the academic year 2076/077 in its own college buildings.

The proposed master plan of College premises covers a total of 5. 5 hectare of land consisting two different plots i.e. 2 hectare land that has been planned for building academic complex where as the other 3.5 hectare land has been planned for practical farm complex which covers horticulture, agronomy, fishery and animal husbandry. More lands are supposed to be provided by the local government authority of Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli and Hariharpur Gadhi Rural Municipality, Sindhuli for fruit orchards, seed production blocks, animal science, fishery and staffs accommodation buildings. Currently, about 15 kattas i.e. 0.5 hectare land area has been leased by college for the practical purposes.

Unless and until the human resources i.e. DARBANDIS are approved by Government of Nepal, the college has been operated by its internal sources which is supported by central government of Nepal, government of province number 3 and local governments.

The college offers Bachelors level degree on Agriculture from the academic year 2074/075. Currently, a total number of 45 students i.e. 20 female and 25 male from the 30 different districts of Nepal are studying in CNRM- Sindhuli.


Message from the Principal

First of all, I would like to thank the executive committee of the AFU for appointing me as the Principal of College of Natural Resource Management, Marin, Kapilakot, Sindhuli. CNRM, Sindhuli was established as the second constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) representative of the province number three, Nepal. The CNRM, Sindhuli was established with hard effort from the AFU authority and local bodies of Sindhuli and classes were immediately run after inauguration from former prime minister and chief guest Mr. Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) on 15th of February 2018 The college aims to produce technically competent man power in the field of agriculture and promote excellences in teaching, research and extension in the field of agriculture and other natural resource management disciplines in the country. At present, the college offers academic program of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (B.Sc.Ag) with 54 student’s intake in each academic year. The college wishes to extend its teaching programs such as B.Sc. (Fishery), B.Sc. (Forestry), B.Sc. (Animal Science) and increase the number of student intake in the recent future. The college would undertake teaching activities of the student with special focus on practical classes; make them interact with local farmers to enhance their competent power in the field of agriculture and make them expose in the recent technology of commercial agriculture. In addition of teaching, the college provides facilities for sports, extracurricular activities and recreation. The college located area i.e. Marin Rural Municipality, Sindhuli is productive land for the cereals, vegetables, animal husbandry, fishery and fruits situated 290 MASL. The marginal and disadvantageous communities of the area probably would be benefited by the research and extension activities of our teaching faculties and students. I expect coordination and help from government bodies, I/NGSs, local communities and other stakeholders to establish the college as pioneer college of AFU. Finally, I would like to thank members of parliament from province number three, local leaders, Marin Rural Municipality and also Marin Multiple Campus for providing us building to run our classes at the moment until we become able to conduct classes at our own buildings.

Academic Program

Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (B.Sc. Ag.): The aim of this program is to train academically competent and practical oriented professional agriculturist in the field of agriculture. B.Sc. Ag. Program is eight semester (four year) after 10+2 (Science) or I.Sc. (Agriculture) Students with 10+2 (Science) with Compulsory English, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology securing a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate from any recognized Universities or Boards are eligible to apply for B.Sc. Ag. The selection for admission is on merit basis through an entrance examination. Girls’ students, students from disadvantage group and local (College situated area) are provided some preferences in terms of reserved quota and leverages in admission requirements.


Education System

Semester System: The CNRM-Sindhuli (AFU) follows a semester system of education for B.Sc. Ag. program. There are two semesters in each academic year. One semester covers a period of ninety effective working days of teaching and two weeks for final examination. The academic calendar is prepared in the beginning of academic session by the College.


Vacations and Holidays: There will be one month vacation at the start of Dashain festival and one month vacation during summer generally after the middle of Jestha. The other vacations such as Seven days semester break depend upon the academic calendar of the CNRM-Sindhuli. The class work generally remains closed during vacation.


Examination System

Internal Assessment: The CNRM-Sindhuli (AFU) follows semester system of examination for evaluation. A total of 20% of full marks in theory in each subject is evaluated internally by the subject teacher through an internal assessment. The student must secure 40% marks in the internal assessment to qualify for final examination. The course teacher gives one chance for makeup test to those who fail in the first internal assessment or missed for valid reasons.

Final Theory and Practical Examination: The Examination Controller Office, AFU conducts a separate final theory examination of 80% of total marks, and 100% of practical for each level externally through an external system of examination. A students must secure at least 40% marks in theory and practical separately to pass the final theory and practical examination in each subject. The students who fail in the final theory or practical examination are allowed to take a back-paper examination conducted by the Examination Controller Office, AFU in each semester after about a month of announcement of final examination result of previous semester. Those who fail in the back paper examination must register the course again and take the regular class along with regular students of the particular semester.


Attendance Requirement

A student must attend at least 70% of classes in theory and practical in each subject to be eligible for final examination. All teachers will submit their attendance register to the Principal after the end of classes of each subject.


Grading System

A student will be graded at 1-4 scale; 1 being the lowest and 4 being the highest grade. A, B, C and D grade will be awarded according to marks obtained in the courses.

D 40 % and less than 50 %

The students must secure grade point 2 to pass the undergraduate courses.


Curriculum Delivery

The content of courses has been discussed critically among the experts and faculty of related disciplines. The course codes listed have short text of the subject matter with numbers. The first digit of the number indicates the year in which a course is offered and other digit indicates the serial number of course. Each theory or practical credit hours is equivalent to 25 marks in theory or practical. For example, a course with credit hours of 2+1 has full marks of 75 (Theory 50 and practical 25). One credit for theory means one- hour of theory per week, and for practical means two to three hours of practical per week.
