Message from the Vice Chancellor

Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) was founded in Chitwan District on June 2010 as a state owned first Technical University in the country. It was established by merging Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) Rampur Chitwan and Institute of Forestry (IOF), Hetauda, Makawanpur District. The mission of this university is to improve the quality of peoples’ life through agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forestry education, research and extension. It encourages and support faculty members and students for research and scholarly activities relevant to the needs of Nepalese agricultural, livestock and Aquaculture farmers.  The AFU foster student self-development, commitment and responsibility for welfare of Nepalese society.

The AFU has contributed significantly to man power development in Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Fisheries and Forestry. We are currently working on collaborative research, capacity development of our young faculties and providing services to the community farmers of Chitwan, Makawanpur and Nawalparashi District through our Faculty experts, post graduate and undergraduate students. We are working to produce competent manpower for the development of new technology and it’s dissemination to the farmers. The AFU will fully committed to produce quality peer-reviewed publications and reports. We are also happy to provide space and accommodation for the conduct of workshop and related research activities by the participating faculty members from Asia and abroad.

Land grant model of education is adopted at AFU. In addition to the academic excellancy, AFU is committed to conduct research and extension activities in association with Dept. of Agriculture (DOA), Dept. of Livestock Services (DLS) and Dept of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC). The AFU has at present been accepted as one of the major determinants for all round development of Agriculture in the country. The quality of education has to be enhanced to produce able, productive, disciplined and socially responsible citizens, and also to create a workforce capable enough to face the challenges of the 21st century. The promotion of higher education on this field in a pragmatic way would lead to a sustained and rapid development of a society or a nation.

We are developing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Universities of Asia and abroad for research collaboration, faculty and student exchanges, summer schools program, Library development, thesis research support of post graduate students and organizing symposium and conferences. The university is unique for its independent innovative approach and academic excellancy. I am honored and privileged to be part of this excellent academic institutions. As a Vice Chancellor of AFU, I sincerely welcome aspiring faculties, staffs and students to join us for making AFU one of the best university in this region. Students who are studying Ph.D. abroad or having employment abroad are highly requested to collaborate in research work with AFU faculty and if possible join AFU for it’s better future.
